A custom contemporary estate on the market for $38 million in Laguna Beach, CA, is this week’s most expensive new listing on realtor.com®. The luxe build on a coastal bluff was completed in 2010 and initially appeared on the market in 2015 for $45 million. 

With no takers, it’s returned at a lower price point, yet it’s still pricey enough to rule this week’s crop of high-priced homes. It’s an opportunity to score yourself a discount on a property with a level of luxury that is “undeniably impressive” and offers a “world-class” locale. Well, at least that’s what the listing says.

The 9,500-square-foot home on one-third of an acre is part of the posh Montage Resort, where only 13 private home sites are available. Obviously, this pad is a rare offering. 

The estate provides upfront views of the Pacific Ocean through walls of glass. Inside, the sleek home looks less like a humble beach shack and more like it would fit right in next door to Bel Air’s “Billionaire.” Opulent features include dark-hued wenge wood, illuminated slabs of onyx, custom mosaic tile, and natural stone. A floating staircase connects the two levels.  

The home includes five bedrooms, six baths, and two half-baths. There’s also an office; chef’s kitchen with stainless-steel appliances, “exotic wood” cabinetry, and center island; and family room with a fireplace. The living spaces feature sliding walls of glass that open to the outdoor deck, pool, and spa. An eye-popping vaulted glass ceiling adds more natural lighting to the central part of the house.

The deluxe lower level includes a bar, wine cellar, home theater, gym, and outdoor lanai with a one-story waterfall.
