Elvis Presley Lived Here?! You Can Too (If You Don’t Mind a Dump)

Elvis Presley fans are no doubt swooning over recent news that not just one, but two homes once inhabited by the King will go up for online auction on Nov. 11.

Everyone’s heard of Graceland, Presley’s over-the-top former mansion and tourist attraction in Memphis, TN. But he also frequented plenty of other homes in his lifetime—and the two that are headed to GWS Auctions prove just how humble some of them were.

One—a shotgun house on 16.5 acres in Tupelo, MS—was built around the 1920s by Vernon and Vestor Presley, the singer’s father and uncle, respectively. As a schoolboy, Elvis Presley lived there for a while, according to an affidavit signed by Charlene Presley, a relative by marriage.

Though run-down, the property known by the lofty name of “Elvis Presley Heights” is estimated to be worth $2 million to $3.5 million, according to the auction house. Bidding will start at $25,000.

The second house up for auction is a modest mobile home, valued at between $250,000 and $500,000 (bidding will start at $5,000). Elvis Presley had purchased this home in the 1960s, after he’d gained fame and fortune and was living at Graceland. But since his “Memphis Mafia” buddies couldn’t all crash under one roof, the King plunked down eight mobile homes for them on 163 acres adjacent to Graceland and called it “Circle G Ranch.” Then he added a ninth trailer, a 60-foot-long, two-bedroom model manufactured by Delta, for him and his wife, Priscilla, so they could hang close by with his peeps.

To be fair, this trailer’s in sorry shape today—but superfans will geek over the interior, which has been kept in the same condition the couple left it in, right down to the turquoise kitchen cabinets.

How much are Presley’s homes worth?

Surely people will be willing to pay top dollar for these slices of Presley’s life, but just how much?

According to the Associated Press, one of Presley’s private jets, also auctioned off by GWS, was sold in May for $430,000—which was far less than the $2 million to $3.5 million the auction house had estimated. Will Presley’s latest bounty suffer the same fate?

It all depends on how high fans are willing to go, and money might be no object.

Brigitte Kruse of GWS Auctions said in a press release, “beyond any monetary value, fans place an emotional value on owning something that came in contact with their idols.”
