Get Lifted! This K Tiny Home Is Outfitted With an Elevator

Rainbow Tiny Homes

This charming tiny home has a blue exterior, a well-lit layout with glass French doors, and an elevator.

Yes, this diminutive domicile comes equipped with an automated lift to take residents from the main floor to the lofted bedroom of the nearly 300-square-foot space.

It’s an ingenious addition, because it means an owner won’t have to clamber up and down a ladder in the middle of the night. It’s also great for pets.

The elevator-equipped tiny home is the brainchild of Fred Winther and Kate Large—the Denver-based co-owners of Rainbow Tiny Home Builders. The duo started the business a year ago, but didn’t start with a plan to outfit a small space with an elevator.

“When we started putting an interior together, we couldn’t make things work with a set of stairs,” Winther says. “We said ‘elevator’ at the same time. It seemed to be a neat idea.” We couldn’t help but agree.

They were inspired by the Wee Casa tiny-home community in Lyons, CO. The two also traveled to Britain to get a first-hand look at a sensational tiny home with a hot tub. After returning, they built their first tiny home.

The layout includes a 192-square-foot main level and a 100-square-foot loft. The steel frame and metal roof are solid, and built on a trailer foundation so it can easily be driven on the freeway to its final destination.

The cozy setup includes an electric fireplace that doubles as a heat source and a sofa that opens up as a twin bed. The efficient kitchen contains a large fridge, full-size sink, electric stove, and peninsula for food prep and dining space. The tiled bathroom includes a custom sink and shower. There’s a washer-dryer unit, and the dining table with a drop leaf can also double as work space.

The loft fits a queen-size mattress, and includes closets, additional storage, and a sky light. Flooring is Pergo, and pine wood covers the ceiling and walls. Thanks to hard-board siding on the exterior and spray-foam insulation, the home is truly a year-round residence.

Available for $98,000, the price includes the appliances and furniture. Dubbed the Blue Columbine Luxury Tiny Home, it’s traveled to multiple home shows and Winther estimates their cool creation has been seen by tens of thousands.

Denver doesn’t allow tiny homes in the city due to zoning regulations, so a Mile High City buyer hasn’t stepped onto the elevator as of yet. The builders expect the city will eventually see the tiny light.

The owners have a vision to build many more units, and potentially a tiny-home community.

“Our goal is to build homes that are way more affordable that we could put on an assembly line,” Large says. “So we could produce a quality product into a community where people can afford to live.” That’s an uplifting mission statement we can agree with!
