Here’s something worthy of a viral video: YouTube co-founder Steve Chen put his San Francisco penthouse at the Ritz-Carlton Residences back on the market. And this time, the story is likely to have a happy ending. Listed for $5.95 million, the unit is now pending sale.

While almost $6 million is a lot to pay for an apartment—even one that takes up two of the very top floors of the fancy-pants Ritz—the price has gone down by $2 million from the last time it appeared on the market in 2012.

The former chief technology officer for the video-sharing website listed the two-bedroom, three-bath unit for a hefty $8 million six years ago. But with no takers, it was taken off the market until now. The lower price clearly resonated, as the listing went pending after less than a month on the market. Chen, now married with children, has reportedly decamped to the South Bay.

The 39-year-old Taiwanese-born entrepreneur bought the bachelor pad as an empty shell in 2007, a year after he profited from the sale of YouTube to Google. He paid $4.85 million for the unfinished space.

The space was then built out as a custom-designed spread by Joel Sanders Architects of New York City. Sleek and high-tech, the 3,030-square-foot layout includes a “double-wide” living room with fireplace and three TV screens, along with built-ins that include a window seat, a desk, and cabinetry. The gourmet kitchen looks over to a dining area, and out to the San Francisco Bay and the neighborhood below. A bar and powder room round out the public level.

A floating walnut-and-glass staircase leads to the second floor, with a master bed and bath separated by glass that becomes frosted at the flick of a switch. An impressive server room is also situated on that level, along with the laundry.

There’s a second ensuite bedroom, currently a game room, which can also serve as guest quarters. Both bedrooms have pocket walls that disappear into the corners to extend the views and to see down to the living room.

As befits a founder of a successful tech company, the home is fully automated, with controls for everything from window shades to the media and sound system. The unit also includes the benefits of living in the Ritz-Carlton, such as the 24/7 attended lobby, multi-level gym, and two-car valet parking.

Gregg Lynn of Sotheby’s International Realty holds the listing.
