Retired hockey legend Wayne Gretzky is proving to be just as sharp in real estate as he was on the ice—flipping a Southern California house for a $600,000 profit, then turning around and picking up another mansion at a huge discount.

The 57-year-old Hockey Hall of Famer bought a nearly 5,600-square-foot, 4-bedroom, 5-bath house in Westlake Village, CA, last summer for $3.6 million. But by March, he and his wife decided the house was a little too small for their tastes, listed it—and nearly immediately found a buyer willing to pay $4.2 million, The Globe and Mail reports.

The couple traded up to a far larger house just five minutes away in Thousand Oaks, plunking down $13.5 million on a palatial, 13,200-square-foot mansion at the edge of Sherwood Country Club. It’s the second time the Gretzkys have owned this particular mansion—back in 2007, the couple sold it for $18.5 million, public records show.

The two savvy real estate deals are the latest in a string of off-the-ice wins for Gretzky, who has bought, remodeled, and sold tens of millions of dollars in residential real estate since retiring from the NHL.

First, the Westlake Village house: Originally built in 2004, the Spanish-style family home sits on the Sherwood Country Club’s 16th hole, and is chock-full of amenities.

The home opens to a library with a large, built-in bookcase and ornate gas fireplace. Across the hall, there’s a formal dining room with a second fireplace, and sparkly crystal chandelier.

The heart of the home is its open concept living room, which flows into an informal dining area and the kitchen. The living room features a built-in entertainment center, yet another fireplace, and large windows looking out on the patio, pool, and golf course.

Upstairs, the large master bedroom has its own fireplace and balcony, and the master bath has a soaking tub and separate shower.

Alas, the Gretzkys’ love affair with their Westlake Village home was short-lived. Their daughter Paulina Gretzky and her husband, pro golfer Dustin Johnson, had originally planned on moving into the house, but changed their plans, The Globe and Mail reports.

So the Great One and his wife, Janet Jones, traded up to a nearby six-bedroom home on nearly 6.7 acres. The spacious new pad, less than two miles away, has traded hands a few times since the Gretzkys sold it a little over a decade ago. Its most recent owner bought the house in mid-June 2017 for $13.5 million, and sold it to the Gretzkys earlier this month for the exact same price.

A 2013 listing video of the new home shows that the property features two guesthouses, a giant pool, full-sized tennis court, and views of Lake Sherwood. Inside, beyond the immaculate rooms and expansive kitchen, there’s a movie theater with dedicated wine bar, fitness facility, and office.

In January 2017, Gretzky sold a different house in Thousand Oaks for nearly $6 million (he bought the house eight years before for $2.76 million). By the end of the year, he had sold yet another house in Westlake Village for $3.4 million.

Gretzky, widely regarded as the greatest hockey player of all time, scored 894 goals over 1,487 games with the Edmonton Oilers, Los Angeles Kings, St. Louis Blues, and New York Rangers. He was immediately inducted in the Hockey Hall of Fame after his retirement in 1999.
