Taking a page from the Manhattan luxury playbook, the most expensive new listing this week on realtor.com® is a multilevel penthouse in Miami Beach, FL, on the market for $65 million. Carlo Gambino of Douglas Elliman holds the listing.

Located in the Apogee, an upscale residential waterfront tower, the unit is billed as “undoubtedly the best apartment south of New York City, with the best views and location Miami has to offer.”

We’re not here to argue or quibble. The unit’s massive floor-to ceiling windows provide stunning views of the water and city skyline. The focal point of the condo, which spans the 22nd, 23rd, and 24th floors, is a translucent spiral staircase that extends from the living room. Nothing will block the light or those incredible vistas inside this space.

The three-level condo measures 8,200 square feet and has five bedrooms and seven baths. Perhaps most impressive for a luxe home located in a warm-weather climate, the penthouse features more outdoor than indoor space: 13,000 square feet, including wraparound terraces on all three floors.

Most of the third floor is taken up by a 7,000-square-foot rooftop terrace, along with a pool, hot tub, cabana, outdoor kitchen, movie screen, and dining area.

This amazing dwelling didn’t always look this way. According to the Wall Street Journal, former lawyer William Duker picked up the apartment when it was nothing more than raw space for $16.5 million in 2008.

He spent three years building it out, including adding the jaw-dropping glass staircase, with interior design and furnishings from Miami’s PH Design Group. Now, Duker apparently wants to sell it so he can sail around the world. If he’s able to float away with his current asking price, it will set a record for the Miami area.
