Declutter your closet? Of course. Purge your pantry? Absolutely. We’re all for a little home organization, but this craze has recently spread to an area that gives us pause: the fridge.

A quick look on Instagram reveals that people really love showing off refrigerator interiors that have been cleaned up, color-coordinated, and arranged to look more like works of art than a place where humans forage for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We are impressed—but also concerned. What if some hungry teenager starts rummaging around and puts the milk back somewhere other than its designated spot?

Fridges are meant to feed family members, not show off how much Marie Kondo Kool-Aid you’ve swallowed.

Nonetheless, these fridges are mind-boggling marvels to behold, and contain plenty of inspiration we can all apply in our own refrigerators (hopefully in moderation) if they need some tidying up. Behold some of Instagram’s most scarily organized fridges below, and what we learned from them.

1. Move around those shelves

For starters, let’s just say it’s hard to ignore the fact that this fridge below belongs to someone who’s into eating/drinking green things by day, and guzzling Champagne by night. But let’s forget that for a moment and admire this organizer’s precise use of adjustable shelves. That way, all those bottles and containers fit snugly with no wasted space.

2. Store your stuff in matching jars

Nothing streamlines and unifies the interior of a fridge like matching jars or containers. Sure, you might have to transfer a few things from their original packets into said jars, but the effects? Wowza. Yet we also admire how this fridge organizer added a wicker basket to give it more of a farmers market feel.

#myphamilyfridge was a whole mess during Ramadan. Between the iftar plates, my husbands random fasting cravings I didn’t even bother. But I’m back, and feeling better. I got my @gomethodology order and I’m ready to roll for the week. So convenient to have a healthy meal waiting for me, as I continue to show up for myself+ my body+ my health. I still plan to make Phamily dinner, but these pre made healthy meals are perfect for my lunch when the kids are eating fruit or whatever and I’m famished from #breastfeeding all day. It’s summer and my kids are doing an all you can eat fruit fest (which i totally support). I’ve been rethinking my meal plan for the summer —> * light meals/ more liquids * I’m still on my #celeryjuice and will be bumping all my meals up with some greens. And of course I’ve got the usual suspects ready to go. – in the basket : mushrooms/sweet peppers/ cherry tomatoes all separated in paper bags – butternut squash peeled+cut+Jared (see previous post on how) – blueberries (not washed just jarred for longevity) – sweet potatoes sliced+ jarred in water – kale for everything What you don’t see: more fruit, fermented food, veggies. #gomethodology #foodasmedicine #madewithlove #healthyfood #fridgegoals #fridgeorganization #mealprep #momof3 #momlife #motherhood #healthyeats #healthymom #foodie #mothers #momhacks #fridge #wellness #selfcare #healthylifestyle #healthyeatingideas #postpartumlife #postpartum #eeeeeats #simplefood #backtobasics #foodstorage

3. Get creative with containers

Not into matchy-matchy containers? This fridge below proves that you can use an assortment of containers—Mason jars, wire stacking baskets, clear bowls—it’s all fair game, and adds a more eclectic vibe.

4. Color coordinate

Color coordination is a thing in closets, why not your fridge, too? And, to take it one step further, you may as well organize those hues into a gorgeous rainbow effect, left to right. Check out how this homeowner managed to carry the rainbow theme from top to bottom, too. However, we’ve got to take points off because the orange peppers in the drawer below should be placed next to the red cheese wheels above. Hel-lo, it’s ROYGBV.

5. Add clear drawers for easy access

Yes, most fridges come with a couple of drawers to keep your veggies crisp. But why not add more, as this fridge organizer did to great effect? Granted, we find it odd to use said drawers to stash sunflowers inside your fridge rather than a vase on your table, but to each his own. And clearly this person has a candy corn addiction, but at least it’s a highly organized candy corn addiction.

6. Label everything!

Practically every organizer loves a labeling system, because how else are people to know where things belong? And if you live with family or roommates, it helps them remember who owns that coconut water or almond milk (and who should keep their paws off), too. Just know that when it comes to labeling stuff in a fridge, some labels aren’t going to stay sticky in the cold for long.

Instead, consider keeping it simple with a permanent marker to mark those drawers. Just make sure you’re bringing your most Instagram-ready handwriting, as this fridge organizing fanatic has done below.

7. Save room for dessert

This fridge has it all—with stocked (but tidy) shelves, appropriately sized clear containers, and perfectly utilized door shelves. But what makes it over-the-top perfect? Why, that extra space for cake, of course!

Granted, there probably isn’t always a cake in that spot (unless this family has a serious sweet tooth), but what’s great is this Instagrammer knew to leave some space for some true eye candy.
