If these walls could laugh, the new owners of 89-year-old comedian Norm Crosby‘s house would never get any rest. The legendary “Master of Malaprop” just put his house on the market for the first time in 50 years, and listing agent Josh Altman is confident it won’t last long.

The $6 million price is more about the location and lot size than the house itself. While the 5,516-square-foot home is truly pristine, tastes change over time—and the six-bedroom, six-bath home could use a little refresh inside and out.

The 21,000-square-foot double lot the house sits on, as well as the Hollywood Hills location close to the trendy shops and eateries of Sunset Boulevard, will never go out of style. Altman says the possibilities for the property are endless, include the new buyer living there as is, adding a second story, redeveloping the property, or expanding the home in other ways.

Whatever the plans, whoever buys the home will be getting a lovely view, rooms with wood floors, paneling and shutters, swinging bar with fireplace, kitchen with island, his-and-her master baths and closets, outdoor kitchen, and pool.

The new owners will also have bragging rights to the outdoor deck and sparkling pool, where many a great entertainer, including Johnny Carson, Bob Hope, Tom Jones, Dean Martin, George Burns, Jerry Lewis, and Phyllis Diller, likely sipped cocktails.

Not that Crosby ever let the star power surrounding him get in the way of a clever joke.

Gene Autry, Roy Rogers, Dale Evans—these people are giants, legends; their names are household words. Of course, so’s Jell-O,” he once said.

Many of Hollywood’s greatest comedians sipped cocktails by this pool.

Despite its history, developers are likely sizing up the unique, oversize lot and its exquisite location, possibly with plans to build a mansion with an eight-figure price tag.

And Crosby can laugh his way to the bank. In the ’60s, a swanky pad like this would go for as much as $100,000, which was a pittance to him in those days.

Through the ’60s, ’70s, and early ’80s, Crosby was a popular guest and stand-up comedian on talk shows, as well as a pitchman for Anheuser-Busch Natural Light beer, and a regular on game shows, including “Liar’s Club,” “Tattletales,” and “Hollywood Squares.”
