Director John Woo Selling His .5M Retreat in Pacific Palisades

Filmmaker John Woo is helming a new project: the sale of his longtime Pacific Palisades, CA, home, which has been listed for $7.5 million.

Woo, who is best known for his action films “Face/Off,” “Broken Arrow,” and “Mission: Impossible 2,” bought the place in 2004 for $4 million. He has since remodeled the home, which was built in 1955. The 4,555-square-foot home has four bedrooms and 5.5 baths.

According to listing agent Ivy Lang of Mel Wilson & Associates, the 71-year-old director and his wife, Anne Chun-Lung Niu, want to downsize. Woo has also been focusing on filmmaking in Asia over the past decade.

Located in the Riviera neighborhood, the home is gated and covered in the front by a tall hedge.

There are two bedrooms on the second story, including the master suite. It has a balcony, fireplace, his-and-her walk-in closets, and a large bath.

There’s another master suite, on the main level, and it features a gym and an attached office with built-ins.

Also on the main floor are a living room with cathedral ceiling, formal dining room, and den with fireplace. The massive kitchen features four ovens, a seven-burner commercial stove, and granite countertops.

The professionally landscaped property has a pool, several fountains, and a 500-square-foot guesthouse with a bathroom.

Believe it or not, $7.5 million is quite reasonable for this swanky area, which is also home to many celebrities. They include Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner (when they were together), J.J. Abrams, and Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, among others.

Woo first arrived in Hollywood in 1993 to direct the film “Hard Target.” He’s been working on big-budget Chinese films over the past several years, including the two-part epic war film “Red Cliff” and another two-part film, “The Crossing.” His latest film, “Manhunt,” was released in China in November 2017.
