Former NFL running back Ryan Mathews is scampering away from his San Diego, CA, home. The custom abode is now on the market for $2.85 million. According to property records, Mathews bought the Mission Bay abode in 2012 for $1,862,500.

Built in 2009, the four-bedroom home features both ocean and bay views. The contemporary design vaguely resembles a swooping ship, and includes three decks, a rooftop hot tub, and two built-in barbecues.

Enter from a glass gate to a large courtyard patio outfitted with a fire pit and built-in barbecue with granite counters. The outdoor cooking area is located near sliding glass doors to facilitate easy indoor-outdoor living.

The front door opens to a 2,411-square-foot interior with a circular staircase that accesses all three levels. An open living and dining space offers a fireplace and Brazilian wood floors as well as multiple windows.

The open kitchen, which accesses the patio, includes a breakfast area, and contains a large granite bar and stainless-steel appliances.

Upstairs are the bedrooms, three of which are ensuite. The large master suite boasts a fireplace and balcony.

On the third floor, a large bonus room fills a space that could be a fifth bedroom, game room, or media room. From there, you can access one of the two rooftop decks, with a built-in barbecue and fireplace. Another level up, there’s the rooftop hot tub.

In addition, the property includes a three-car garage.

It appears that Mathews, 31, has already left city life. A profile of the player in 2018 noted that he had moved to rural Ramona, CA, to 20-acre ranch. “He has five horses, goats, pigs, rabbits, chickens, dogs. He owns a Harley, another motorcycle, and a minibike,” the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.

Possibly, the move had something to do with a craving for privacy. Even after he left the game, his fans continued to make a beeline to his door to request autographs.

The California native starred in college at Fresno State before being drafted by the San Diego Chargers in 2010. He played with the team until he moved on to the Philadelphia Eagles in 2015. He was released by the Eagles in 2017 after two so-so seasons. Mathews now keeps involved as the full-time assistant coach of a local high school team.
