Facing mounting legal bills, disgraced former national security adviser Michael Flynn is selling his townhouse outside Washington, DC, to help pay for his defense.

Flynn, 59, bought the three-bedroom, three-bath unit in Alexandria, VA, in early 2012 for $700,000. He put it on the market for $850,000 after pleading guilty in December to a felony count of lying to the FBI about contacts with Russian nationals during the 2016 presidential election. This week he reduced the price to $835,000.

Built in 2005, the townhouse itself is unremarkable, and the exterior resembles the Colonial-style homes nearby.

The master bedroom has a spacious sitting area. There’s a small, wall-mounted TV for catching up on the news while getting dressed. There are side-by-side closets in the bedroom for Flynn and his wife, Lori. Flynn’s closet has a mat reminding him to “Relax.” (Considering that the closet is packed with his clothes, we’re guessing it hasn’t been staged.)

Downstairs, the kitchen has dark granite countertops, black GE appliances, and a microwave mounted over the oven. The doors of the black refrigerator are covered with photos of Flynn’s friends and family.

The dining room features a built-in china cabinet with lighting. The closet under the stairs was converted into a pantry. Elsewhere, there are two underground parking spots and a storage unit.

“I’m not going to sugarcoat it, this has been a trying experience” for the family, Flynn’s brother Joseph told ABC News. “It has been a crucible, and it’s not over.”

Joseph Flynn set up a fund last year to help raise money for his brother’s legal defense.

“Compared to the suffering many others in this world go through, we’ll certainly get through this,” Flynn’s son, Michael Jr., tweeted this week. “Houses are material. Having a strong family is all we need.”

Flynn served in the U.S. Army for 33 years, retiring in 2014 as a lieutenant general. He soon signed on with the Trump presidential campaign, introducing the candidate at rallies. He stepped into the limelight at the Republican National Convention, where he gave a fiery speech and denounced the Democratic candidate, Hillary Clinton, leading chants of “Lock her up! Lock her up!”

He served as Trump’s national security adviser for 24 days before stepping down, after admitting he had contacts with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak during the presidential transition.
