The midcentury modern home Josh Hutcherson just put on the market for $3.5 million may be small, but it is fierce, at least as far as Hollywood pedigrees go.

The two-bedroom, two-bath, 1,861-square-foot home in L.A.’s Hollywood Hills was once owned by furniture designer Guy Chaddock, and Ellen DeGeneres owned it for a moment before she sold it in 2005 for $2.3 million to Heath Ledger, according to Variety.

Hutcherson bought the Laurel Canyon home in 2012 for $2.5 million, which was a savvy move for the young actor. He’d been making a good living as a child actor, starring in films such as “Little Manhattan,” “Bridge to Terabithia,” and “Journey to the Center of the Earth” before landing the coveted role of Peeta Mellark in “The Hunger Games” series.

Built in 1951, the home has plenty of reasons to recommend it, in addition to its star-studded history. It’s been described through the years as the treehouse, Shangri-La, and a Zen retreat, thanks to its lush, hidden location on a half-acre in the middle of a sycamore grove on a quiet hillside right off Mulholland Drive.

The home’s most extraordinary feature might be its huge, 2,500-square-foot outdoor deck, which is considerably larger than the indoor living space. The deck overlooks leafy treetops giving the space a breezy vibe. It’s furnished with an outdoor grill, several seating areas, and, perhaps best of all, an open-air screening room with a retractable projection screen.

There are polished concrete floors and pitched wood-beamed ceilings. In between are walls of glass and doors that open to the deck, as well as gardens and stone paths.

In addition to the two bedrooms, both equipped with French doors that open to the outdoors, there’s an office and a sleek kitchen equipped with stainless-steel Miele and Sub-Zero appliances, plus a wine fridge.

Hutcherson, 26, recently paid nearly $1.9 million for a three-level, 2,000-square-foot home in Silver Lake. He’s currently starring in and producing the web comedy series “Future Man,” and will soon be seen in the thrillers “Burn” and James Franco‘s star-packed “The Long Home.”

Deedee Howard and Charlie Heydt of The Agency are the listing agents.
