The carriage house in East Hampton, NY, associated with the iconic Grey Gardens estate has reportedly sold, according to Curbed.

Built adjacent to the mansion in 1896, the carriage house was split off from the main property and sold in the early 1950s.

The listing went on the market for $9.5 million in January. In April the price was reduced to $8.95 million. The house was eventually sold for less than that, according to Curbed.

This year’s listing marked the first time the charming carriage house had been on the market in 56 years. Sitting on just over an acre and just a short walk to Georgica Beach, it offers views of the ocean and lush greenery.

The 3,500-square-foot home has five beds and four baths. It features a spacious carriage room with a 10-foot-high ceiling, wainscoting, and French doors that open to a shaded terrace. The home also boasts a tiled garden and dining room, family room, and balconies with water views. The hedged grounds include a heated pool and a detached two-car garage.

The listing notes that zoning allows the home’s expansion to 5,500 square feet plus a finished lower level.

The Grey Gardens main house was most recently owned by author Sally Quinn and her husband, Washington Post executive editor Ben Bradlee, who bought it in the 1970s for $220,000 from Edith Bouvier Beale and her daughter, Edith Beale.

The eccentric duo, known as Big Edie and Little Edie, were made famous by the 1975 documentary “Grey Gardens,” and were relations of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. The home, which was in disrepair, was completely remodeled by Quinn and Bradlee.

After Bradlee’s death in 2014, Quinn decided to sell the famed residence. The estate went on the market for $20 million in early 2017 and reportedly sold for $15.5 million in December 2017.
