‘Guggenheim Museum Meets Spaceship’ Soars Onto Market in Washington

If you’ve ever dreamed of flying through the stars in a modern art creation, this listing may be for you. This six-bedroom, 4.5-bath home described as “Guggenheim Museum meets spaceship” in Tenino, WA, is on the market for $11 million.

And living space certainly won’t be a concern. It sits atop 85 acres of land and comes with a 3,000-square-foot, three-bedroom guesthouse

“We’ve never had anything like it in our marketplace here,” says listing agent Michael Morrison. He believes it’s the most expensive residence ever listed in neighboring Pierce, Mason, and Thurston Counties. “The architecture speaks for itself. It’s just smooth, less-is-more construction.”

There’s no base, floor, or door trim—just flowing, serene walls. The main house features mainly soft, rounded shapes in a modern design, with multilevel landscaping inspired by the Garden of Cosmic Speculation in Scotland. Each room has its own color scheme, with custom furniture designed to complement the curving walls and plush accents.

“What I love is the sense of peacefulness that you get when you pull in the driveway,” says Morrison. “You don’t see anything for miles—just trees and rolling hills.”

A staircase leads from a second-story porch to an oval water feature. At the other end of the house, a triangular reflecting pool sits next to a trellis-wrapped table room and copper-lined “focus room.” Nearby is an 80-foot rectangular saltwater pool with retractable glass walls.

Sustainability was also a significant factor in the design. The walls of the home are made of American ionized clay, electricity comes from gel batteries, and geothermal water heaters and solar-powered boiler heat the home.

“You could be nearly off-grid” says Morrison. For example, the current owner had one electric bill for a mere $21. The bedrooms include fiber-optic lighting and the propane-powered fireplace burns wood.

Enhancing the off-grid experience are the many gardens around the house. A tiered rose garden sits alongside a greenhouse and fruit trees, providing plums, kiwis, pears, apples, and other fruits. Chickens roost in the neighboring coop and corral. You can also enjoy target practice at the archery range.

There’s space on the property to build a helipad or equestrian facilities. And downtown Seattle is a 90-minute drive.

“The ideal buyer is somebody who wants to be near a world-class city, but they don’t want to necessarily be in the hustle and bustle everyday,” says Morrison. “It’s close but it’s far enough away to give you that real peacefulness. It’s really for somebody that wants a ‘less is more’ approach to living.”
