Heads Up! Scary Hunting Lodge Home Shoots to Top Spot of Most Popular Listings

Lions, and tigers, and bears … oh my! And in a house? A Minnesota hunting lodge has bagged another trophy: as this week’s most popular home. Inside, the home is filled with countless stuffed animal heads (and other body parts), mounted and displayed in a jaw-dropping showroom.

This week’s runner-up continues to whip up its fair share of interest. The infamous Pennsylvania home with a fully furnished BDSM basement still has the competition all tied up. 

Other homes dominating the charts this week include the most expensive home in Arizona, a brownstone in Chicago, IL, once owned by Al Capone, and a Colorado retreat built by Frank Lloyd Wright’s granddaughter.

Price: $26 million
Why it’s here: Completely renovated in 2018, this high-end home was transformed from a meh Mediterranean into a cool contemporary. Price: $795,000
Why it’s here: Trigger warning for vegetarians and PETA members. This hunting lodge holds a surprise within. As in … stuffed animal heads. A lot of them.

Listing agent Alan Olson, doesn’t know exactly how many. “[The owner] traveled worldwide for those hunts,” says the agent, “They are his trophies.”

If you’re wondering if the sale includes the animal mounts, it doesn’t. In fact, someone already contacted the owner to negotiate a sale of the entire taxidermy collection, “lock, stock, and barrel,” as Olson puts it.

From countless deer (a number of the white-tailed deer showcased in the home came right off the owner’s land) to exotic kills like giraffe, zebra, and tiger, the animal trophies fill a 7,000-square-foot showroom that includes seating and a bar. Of course, a bar. 

The home is situated on 90 acres of hunting lands that abut an additional 168 acres of public hunting land. The owner has also kept the ponds stocked with local fish like walleyes, and allows neighbors to fish them.

Not that you’ll notice, but the main house, essentially “brand-new inside,” features a designer kitchen, a fireplace, central air, and sliding glass doors to a landscaped patio. An additional building includes the family room with fireplace and bar, a gym, and two more bedrooms.
