Is ‘Bad Chad’ From ‘The Bachelorette’ a Realtor? Really?

Fans of ABC’s “The Bachelorette” absolutely love to hate Chad Johnson—one of 12 bachelors vying this season for the hand of JoJo Fletcher, who recently kicked “Bad Chad” off the show. Why? Oh, perhaps his frequent fits of rage were a turnoff. Or his nonstop workouts. Or the fact that he called Fletcher “naggy” to her face, on a date (way to win her over, bud!).

Johnson is gone. But as if often the case with the rejects, he’s now more famous than ever—with a recent appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” and new gig on the next season of “Bachelor in Paradise” to prove it. And things are looking up for him off-screen as well! In case you weren’t paying attention, Johnson is a real estate agent in Tulsa, OK. And he says his fame—or infamy—has clients flocking to him to buy homes.

But should they be banging down his door? Does being a reality TV villain somehow translate into kick-ass real estate expertise?

According to his  bio on the website for brokerage Chinowth and Cohen, Johnson transitioned from car sales to real estate (since selling a home is just like selling a car, right?). What’s more, Johnson says he “grew up around the industry,” since “his parents worked as real estate investors, giving him unique insight into the industry.” Hmm.

Meanwhile his realtor.com® profile page says he’s been an entrepreneur since age 13, “allowing him to hone his sales and negotiation skills to levels of agents twice his age.” He’s also worked as a day trader and website flipper, through which he’s “developed the ability to determine value with unprecedented accuracy.”

In sum, “For those looking to either buy or sell properties, Chad Johnson will not disappoint.”

Not convinced? Well, you aren’t exactly alone. Even though he is apparently a licensed Realtor®, many are wondering what actual experience he has, if any, in real estate. Specifics are scant. At this writing, none among the hordes of buyers and sellers who’ve made his business “boom” opted to write a review on his profile. Of course, they may be quietly savoring his acumen.

It’s true that testimonials and reviews aren’t everything. But if you’re looking to hire a real estate agent, it’s definitely in your interest to ask a few key questions to gauge if this agent is right for you. For example: How long have you been in business? How many homes have you sold? In what area? Price range? And: Are you for real?

Curious to learn more, I called the phone number listed on Johnson’s bio and left a message, but received no response. I also called the Chinowth office and spoke to his sister, who is also a real estate agent. She was nice and said she’d pass along my request for an interview, but warned me that he’s quite busy.

Haven’t heard back from Johnson yet. So whether he’s had much or any experience in real estate remains a mystery, although one thing’s for sure: He’s a true pro at selling himself.
