With a design inspired by a three-winged airplane propeller, the newly built Orum residence in Los Angeles has lifted off as this week’s most expensive new listing on realtor.com®. Only buyers with high-flying bank accounts will be able to consider purchasing this luxe mansion for $56 million.

The ultramodern structure, billed as a “living piece of art,” was built to take advantage of the views from its perch on a hill above Bel-Air.

Designed by architect Zoltan Pali, the nine-bedroom residence is wrapped in three types of glass: mirrored, translucent, and clear. The spacious 18,850-square-foot home comes with 1.6 acres.

The home offers communal spaces on the main floor, an upper floor with bedrooms, and a lower level with a theater, gym, guest rooms, a 1,000-bottle wine room, and cedar spa. The high-tech home comes fully automated, allowing lights, sound, TVs, and motorized sliding doors to be controlled by touch panels, the Wall Street Journal notes.

The layout includes amazing amounts of glass, creating a seamless transition to the outside spaces. The chef’s kitchen includes a butler’s pantry and high-end appliances, a formal dining room, and walls of glass that open to outdoor decks. Beyond the LED-lit pool and spa outdoors, there’s an al fresco  kitchen, two fire pits, and plenty of lounging and dining areas.

“The motivation behind the design of Orum was to create a residence that could meld into its surroundings,” the architect’s website says. From its perch, the space offers views from downtown Los Angeles to the Pacific Ocean.

The Journal notes the place was built on spec by developer Duangpatra Bodiratnangkura. The property was purchased for $6.1 million in 2014, according to property records.

Aaron Kirman and Louis Evans of Aaron Kirman Partners at Compass hold the listing.
