Just in time for summer, former Vice President Dick Cheney has sold his vacation retreat in Saint Michaels, MD, for $2.1 million.

It represents a rare loss for the former second in command, who had listed the waterfront home for $2,495,000 in April. And the sale price is well below the $2,667,500 he and wife Lynne paid for the place in 2005. The sale price, however, still represents the top of the market compared with area homes.

Named Ballintober, the five-bedroom, 4.5-bath estate comes with 9 acres, a main house, and a guesthouse. The private and gated property leads to the three-bedroom, three-bathroom main house.

Though there are no interior photos of the property, the listing describes an open layout, updated kitchen with family room, formal dining room, and main-level master suite.

And guests have their choice of a separate cottage, or the guest suite attached to the three-bay garage.

Outdoors, you’ll find patios, gardens, an in-ground pool, and a deep-water dock.

Built in 1930 as a getaway for Thomas Edison’s daughter Madeleine, the home is just a few miles from the home of Cheney friend Donald Rumsfeld, a former defense secretary.

The Cheneys reportedly own homes in Wyoming and McLean, VA.

Dick Cheney, 78, has been called the most powerful vice president in history. He served in that position for the George W. Bush administration from 2001–09. In 2017, his daughter Liz won the Wyoming congressional seat he once held. “Vice,” an award-winning movie examining his rise to power, landed in theaters late last year.
