Hanley Ramirez Finally Sells His South Florida Home for .7M

Former MLB All-Star Hanley Ramirez has finally scored on a sale of his South Florida home. His Weston, FL, property sold for $2.7 million at the beginning of July.

However, it wasn’t all good news for the 2006 National League Rookie of the Year. He initially listed the home for $3.9 million in April 2018. After no buyers stepped up to the plate, the asking price was bumped down to $3.8 million a few months later. 

In the new year, the price was sliced yet again, to $3.7 million. But with the sweet retreat languishing on the market, Ramirez aggressively reduced the price to $3.09 million in late February, before settling on a deal this summer.

With his big-league career seemingly drawing to a close, the Dominican-born star may be glad to have the home sale business behind him. Sadly, he didn’t manage to break even on the deal—real estate records show he purchased the luxury abode in 2008 for $3.95 million, during his time with the Marlins.

Built in 2008, the 9,000-square foot Spanish-style compound features eight bedrooms, eight full bathrooms, and two half-baths.

Inside, the open floor plan includes a living room, dining room, billiard-room, office, theater, and poker room. The large kitchen includes a barrel-vaulted ceiling and stainless-steel appliances.

One wing of the home encompasses the master bedroom, with a walk-in closet. Plus, there’s a separate guest wing, gym, and home office. Outdoors, the oversized pool and patio overlook a private preserve on a 1-acre lot. 

The estate is located about 30 minutes from Fort Lauderdale. Still, all that was not enough to keep Ramirez there. 

As a press statement published in Boston Magazine noted, Ramirez “enjoyed the sprawling estate and its surrounding privacy, but has decided to relocate.”

Ramirez, 35, had a spectacular five-season run that began his career with the then-Florida Marlins. He went on to star for the Los Angeles Dodgers and Boston Red Sox. He made the Cleveland Indians club this spring, but was released in April after a slow start to the regular season. He has yet to sign on with another club.
