One of a Kind and Fit for a King, .6M Smith Lake Castle Has Royal Views

Hear ye, hear ye. The Smith Lake Castle just met the vengeful sword of price slashes! The lakefront property, listed earlier this year for $5.25 million, was recently reduced to $4.6 million. Even with the unkind cut, the one-of-a-kind home is the priciest property in Breman, AL.

And this 5,500-square-foot castle isn’t a specimen from Winterfell, cloaked in cold stone and dark corners. Instead, this feat of engineering was built into the side of a mountain in the early 1980s.

“It doesn’t feel like a stone-cold castle,” says listing agent Justin Dyar. “It’s still totally cool and unique.”

Called the Smith Lake Castle by the original owner, it’s become a local landmark, Dyar notes.

“It’s still the most well-known house on the lake,” Dyar says. “It’s a destination. People go to look at it.”

Dyar notes that the original owner was in the construction business, and the home “took years and years to build.”

Unlike many in the area, who own vacation homes, the owners have lived in the castle full time since 1995. Now, they’ve decided to downsize. Only the second owners of this marvelous manse, they carefully remodeled the space.

The good news if you’re in the market for a new castle: “It doesn’t need anything now,” says Dyar. All furnishings are also negotiable, if a buyer wants the complete castle experience.
