Why Do A-Listers Love La Quinta, CA? Desert Secrets Revealed
Why Do A-Listers Love La Quinta, CA? Desert Secrets Revealed
La Quinta, CA, just welcomed two more celebrity residents.
According to Variety, supermodel Cindy Crawford and her husband, Rande Gerber, recently purchased a luxury home at the exclusive Madison Club, which offers a “limited number of homes and memberships.” Those magic words are catnip to paparazzi-averse, luxury-loving celebs.
The couple picked up the 6,000-square-foot property in the desert vacation spot for $5.4 million, which was a nice discount from the home’s most recent list price of $6.5 million.
Although it’s tucked away in the desert, this primo golf property proved too tempting to overlook. The A-list couple do love the links. They even installed a putting green at their Malibu, CA, beach home. Gerber shared a photo on Instagram of his wife, showing off the private practice area.
Boasting triple fairway views, this property is clearly a golfer’s paradise—but it offers plenty of other perks as well.
Enter through a private courtyard with dramatic fire columns, water features, a pool, and lush landscaping. Inside, you’ll find four bedrooms, 4.5 baths, an office, and a guest wing with its own living area. The open floor plan features glass walls that disappear to allow indoor-outdoor living.
The open kitchen features a breakfast area and pantry, and the master suite includes a fireplace, flat-screen TV, and spa-inspired bath.
Outdoors, an extended patio area includes space for cooking and lounging. There’s also an infinity pool and spa. The bonus? The home came fully furnished.
The allure of La Quinta
Crawford and Gerber aren’t the only celebrities to score a vacation home in the area. So what’s causing the land grab?
“First of all La Quinta, the entire Palm Springs area, is on fire,” says local agent Valery Neuman. She credits the Coachella and Stagecoach festivals for bringing in potential home buyers to the formerly sleepy vacation spot. Other factors include the area’s close proximity to Los Angeles, a private airport, and high-end luxury clubs that offer five-star, resort-style living.
Celebrities drawn to the area “want really high-end amenities at the clubs they join. They want privacy and security. They want indoor-outdoor living and entertainment. They want [to be] under the radar, and they’re protected here,” says Neuman.
The median listing home price in the town is currently $585,000, but that figure reflects a number of lower-priced condo and townhome options. On the high end are 16 homes for sale priced at $4 million or more, including this $8.95 million option in the Madison Club.
Kris Jenner lands in La Quinta
In September, Kris Jenner made headlines as the La Quinta pioneer of the Jenner-Kardashian clan. The “momager,” best known for the reality TV show “Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” reportedly picked up a sleek pad at the Madison Club for $12 million.
The seven-bedroom mansion, previously owned by Sylvester Stallone, was one of the most expensive sales in the area.
Kylie Jenner tagged along
Daughter Kylie Jenner followed suit, reportedly buying a $3.25 million homesite at the Madison Club earlier this year. While not known as a golfer, she may have been drawn to the club’s high-end amenities.
‘Kimye’ eyes a Coachella Valley compound
Also swirling were rumors that Kim Kardashian West and husband Kanye West were joining the family’s real estate party, eyeing a villa, also at the Madison Club.
The 8,700-square-foot contemporary on 1.1 acre comes with six bedrooms and 5.5 baths.
While these reality TV stars aren’t exactly known for a low-key lifestyle, the area’s quietude could be the attraction.
“It’s timeout, it’s family time,” Neuman says.
Best of all? “The weather is amazing.”
We doubt they’ll be the last celebs coveting real estate in the sleepy beauty of La Quinta.
