Best Backyard Ever? Landscape Guru Jamie Durie Selling L.A. Masterpiece

You’d expect world-renowned landscape designer and HGTV expert Jamie Durie to have a drop-dead gorgeous outdoor space at his own home. And the amazing outdoor spaces at his SoCal residence surrounding do not disappoint.

It’s a shortcut for a savvy buyer—rather than hiring Durie to redesign your yard, you can just buy his midcentury modern home in L.A.’s Laurel Canyon. He’s recently put his three-bedroom, two-bath post-and-beam home on the market for $2,875,000.

The host of HGTV’s “The Outdoor Room with Jamie Durie” bought the 2,676-square foot home in 2009 for $950,000. He then set about expertly renovating and remodeling it, while preserving its mid-mod features. As a result, the unique design elements created by architects Matlin & Chapman back in 1957 are still in place and readily visible.

You’ll see the period detail in the home’s floor-to-ceiling glass windows, white rock accents, a wide-open floor plan, and period lighting.

Extremely private, it’s a secluded tropical paradise in the middle of SoCal. The inviting pool features gorgeous glass tile all around, and there are numerous raised wooden decks and a covered outdoor dining pavilion with an adjacent outdoor kitchen.

Durie has also added a fire pit area with built-in seating, hanging basket chairs, lushly landscaped lounging platforms, and giant, gorgeous custom iron-basket planters.

And in what might be the best work-from-home scenario we’ve ever seen, there’s a divine studio Durie added out back.

Completely detached from the rest of the home, the studio has living walls, adding pops of green to the outside. On the inside, honey-colored wood-paneled work spaces will spark inspiration.

The entire property is fenced and gated for privacy, but the security measures are also aesthetically pleasing—the wooden gates themselves are works of art, and the planter bedecked fences are quite lovely.
