Late Chiefs Owner Lamar Hunt’s Napa Valley Estate on Market for .95M
The late Lamar Hunt’s California estate and vineyard is on the market for $19.95 million. It’s located in a desirable pocket of Knights Valley in Calistoga.
Hunt and his wife, Norma, who commissioned the property’s construction in 2000, have been the only occupants. This is the first time the 6,615-square-foot home’s on the market. It’s listed with Christine Krenos of Compass Realty.
Hunt, who died in 2006, was the former owner of the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs. He also coined the name “Super Bowl” to describe football’s championship game.
Norma is now selling their 40-acre, Napa-area property along the banks of Bidwell Creek.
“There’s not a lot of properties in Knights Valley, and they’re all large parcels,” says Krenos.
But rest assured, the land, which includes a vineyard planted in 2002 with the cabernet sauvignon grape variety, isn’t far from amenities.
“It definitely has the feeling of being in the middle of nowhere but still 10 minutes to the town of Calistoga,” says Krenos.
Calistoga, which has a population of 5,273, is famous for its hot springs and geysers but also a number of luxe resorts.
“Calistoga’s been up-and-coming and is just 10 minutes north of Saint Helena, but Calistoga’s a little more casual,” says Krenos.
The three-bedroom, five-bath main home is filled with luxuries, including a gym and home office. Naturally, there’s a wine cellar that’s spacious enough to host a dinner or tasting.
Vaulted, beamed ceilings open up the home, while retractable glass walls and a wraparound veranda bring the outdoors in. An outdoor kitchen takes full advantage of the area’s beautiful weather.
Best of all, are the spectacular views. “From every room, you are seeing vineyards,” says Krenos. “It’s also the top of the valley—you get the Palisades Mountains and Saint Helena.”
There’s also room to expand. “There’s more things you can do with the property, like add a winery,” says Krenos.
Although the ranch and vineyard are for sale, Norma plans to retain the label, Perfect Season.
“It’s making 96-point wine right now,” says Krenos.
