Shonda Rhimes Reportedly Snags Park Avenue Penthouse in NYC for .75M
No “Scandal” here. Television producer Shonda Rhimes has reportedly picked up a posh penthouse on Manhattan’s Upper East Side for $11.75 million. The creator of such hit shows as “Scandal,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” and “How to Get Away with Murder,” scored sweet deal on the pricey pad, according to the Real Deal.
The unit had first been listed in March for a hefty $14.75 million before being dropped to $12.5 million in July. That must have been when Rhimes swooped in and managed to snag the place at an even lower price point. Hey, it’s handled.
We think both Olivia and Rhimes would feel right at home in this one-level, top-floor perch on Park Avenue, with five rooms, a private elevator, and a wraparound terrace. Having just undergone a two-year renovation, the graceful space offers restored architectural elements, high ceilings, and a corner living room with a wood-burning fireplace.
The layout includes a formal dining room and a loggia, which leads out to a magical outdoor living and dining area. The remodel also features a high-end, eat-in kitchen with an island and bar seating, along with a wet bar. The master suite opens out to a private terrace, and there’s a guest suite, along with a powder room.
The full service, white-glove building from 1927 features full-time door attendants, a gym, and allows pets.
Rhimes is on a major roll. The television producer just scored a development deal with Netflix, so fans of her shows can look to the web streaming service for eight original programs she’s developing for the streaming service. The 48-year-old, who is worth an estimated $135 million, was recently named as one of the most powerful women in entertainment by Forbes magazine.
Mary Fitzgibbons at Brown Harris Stevens holds the listing.
