The Southern California town of Studio City earned its moniker—not only does CBS have large production studio in this bucolic pocket of the San Fernando Valley, but many area homes are equipped with recording studios, film editing studios, or art studios as well.

In fact, if you hear an intense bass line coming from a garage, it’s probably not a wild party—it’s likely the result of a track being recorded right then and there.

While garage studios abound in the L.A. area, few recording studios are as tricked out as Van Howes. The famous studio (along with its house!) has grooved its way onto the market for a cool $4 million.

Hits for NickelbackDaughtryDavid Cook, Hedley, Boys Like Girls, and Simple Plan have all been committed to tape here in the state-of-the-art recording studio designed and constructed by Jerry Steckling.

And although the studio space is currently configured for professional musicians, the listing states it could be converted to a media room, family room, or bedroom.

There are four separate buildings and a pool on the half-acre property, which is cleverly hidden in the hills up a long, gated driveway. In addition to the studio, there’s a four-bedroom main house, guesthouse, office and gym, totaling 4,403 square feet of living (or playing) space.

The property also includes a pool, separate spa, and lushly landscaped grounds with fountains and ponds shaded by redwood trees.

The main house was built in 1927, but has been completely renovated. It offers an open floor plan illuminated by skylights, a kitchen with Thermador and Miele appliances, and a master bedroom with French doors and a fireplace. An indoor-outdoor family room with a kitchen and bar was also added.

Songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Brian Howe bought the property in 2011 for $1,786,000. Howe then began building the world-class studio. The 52-year-old Canadian has two Juno Awards to his credit, as well as numerous BMI Pop Awards, a Dove Award, and a Grammy nomination.
