This Well-Manicured M Medina Estate Is Washington’s Most Expensive Listing
Medina, WA, the small, highly surveilled town that boasts both Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos as residents—is also home to Washington’s most expensive listing: a 5,330-square-foot, six-bedroom, 6.5-bathroom manse located on the edge of Lake Washington.
“This is the first time the property has been available in half a century,” says Rebecca Gray, the listing agent for the property.
Just 20 minutes outside of Seattle, gorgeous, green Medina has the feel of a sleepy lake town, but don’t be fooled. It’s part of what is being called the “Gold Coast” of Lake Washington, and it’s chock-full of tech millionaires and billionaires.
The Iconic Medina Waterfront Estate, as this property is known, is nestled snugly in this corridor of wealth. Hence the record-setting $28 million asking price. The title of most expensive listing in Washington was previously held by $28 million Vashon Island cattle ranch.
Built in 1929, the historic home, while lovely, is less of a draw than the 2.5-acre estate surrounding it. A formal, English-style garden—a collaboration between the current owner and landscape architect Robert Chittock—has herringbone pathways, a reflecting pool, and year-round blooms. There is a carriage house reimagined as a guest loft by architect George Suyama, tucked amid the greenery.
The grounds, which are registered with the Smithsonian, boast a sundial garden, clay tennis courts, private dock, lake splash pool, and deepwater moorings. With 150 feet of waterfront and a view of Mount Rainier, fruit trees, and old-growth sequoias, a rolling English lawn, and meticulously planted garden, the property is truly a stunner. The home and grounds have been featured in numerous magazines and coffee-table books, and hosted weddings and charity events, most notably one featuring the art glass of Dale Chihuly.
The house itself has two fireplaces, radiant floor heating, an updated kitchen, a one-of-a-kind chandelier, a three-car garage, and a finished basement, but if you’re the sort of person paying $28 million for a property, presumably you’re going to be redoing the house to fit your taste anyway.
It’s truly an opportunity for a flush tech mogul to own a beautifully manicured slice of one of Seattle’s toniest suburbs.
