It’s a glorious day for Kansas City–area architecture fanatics: There’s a Frank Lloyd Wright original on the market. The classic piece of American architecture is listed for $1.65 million.

Wright’s original 1939 design for the Sondern-Adler house is considered small by today’s standards. At a hair over 900 square feet, the home comes with just two bedrooms—although both open, in classic Wright style, to the terrace.

The home’s second owners weren’t satisfied with the petite floor plan: They hired Wright to design a 2,000-square-foot addition, creating the home’s current footprint.

The current owners have maintained the home’s historical accuracy. Walking through the front door is like stepping into a time capsule of the heyday of American architectural prowess. While the main living room shares some elements with today’s Pinterest-inspired abodes, it’s uniquely Wright.

The bricks in the towering fireplace are gray and brown, not whitewashed, and the ceiling and walls are dark wood—not shiplap. To modern eyes, the space might seem a little dark. But in-the-know Wright fans will recognize the designer’s classic touches.

Enjoy a martini in the spacious sitting room, where wall-to-wall windows seamlessly connect the brick and wooden elements. A few exposed steps take you to the dining area—Wright perfected open floor plans long before Drew and Jonathan Scott brought them to the masses.

But there’s one element a new owner might prefer more open: the kitchen. The space is by no means cramped—this is an architectural masterpiece, after all—but buyers may be tempted to tear down a wall or two. (We urge you to resist!) Enjoy vintage appliances, plenty of sunlight, and a little island that’s adorably small compared with today’s behemoths.

While there’s plenty of room for luxurious indoor living, this home’s exterior also shines. A large gravel terrace provides plenty of room for a glamorous outdoor party, perhaps celebrating your new one-of-a-kind house!

Expansive decking flows from room to room, with a number of seating areas for relaxing under the warm Kansas City sun. The grounds are manicured, and the water garden circled by brick is a showstopper.

Bibliophiles will enjoy wrapping up their evening surrounded by built-in bookshelves. These classic Wright additions fill every room—there’s no need for a Kindle when you can house an entire library within your own walls. Curl up in a comfy chair, breathe in the smell of history, and lose yourself in whatever world you choose. Perhaps a biography of the master himself?
