Dino-mite! T. Rex-Inspired Listing Roars to the Most Popular Home of the Week

Dino-mite! T. Rex-Inspired Listing Roars to the Most Popular Home of the Week

realtor.com

Paging Steven Spielberg! Here’s a happy ending for your next “Jurassic Park” flick: the Tyrannosaurus Rex is now king of the housing scene. Or at least responsible for this week’s most popular home on realtor.com®.

A listing agent in Texas donned a dinosaur costume to pose for photos in an unassuming lake house. The result? Plenty of giggles and tons of clicks. Because, really, there are a lot of listings for homes—but this is the only one (we know of!) featuring a creature out of the Cretaceous period.

This week’s runner-up also earned plenty of buzz around the web. A Nashville mansion owned by “The Hills” star Kristin Cavallari and her NFL quarterback husband, Jay Cutler, is up for sale at the same time that it’s in the spotlight on the couple’s new reality show.

Other popular places include Knoxville’s Villa Collina, which comes with 50 rooms across almost 40,000 square feet, the SoCal home of Hollywood legend Zsa Zsa Gabor, and a luxurious new contender for the most expensive home in Arizona.

See the stories of all the homes that made it onto the list this week.

9. 5628 Lyons View Pike, Knoxville, TN

Price: $14,995,000
Why it’s here: Known as Villa Collina, it’s reportedly the largest home in Tennessee. Now back on the market, the sprawling space features 50 rooms and almost 40,000 square feet, a three-tier library, a 2,500-bottle wine cellar, three guest apartments, two pools, a ballroom, and (of course) a gym. It was purchased at auction in 2016 by a local businessman, Eric Barton, for $6.375 million, who planned to renovate the immense mansion but not to live there. He’s now put his investment on the market to gauge interest. And while the incredible pad has gotten plenty of views, time will tell whether all that attention translates to a buyer.

1. 5407 Water View Dr, Granbury, TX

Price: $89,900
Why it’s here: News flash: Dinosaurs aren’t just for “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.” They’re also for selling houses. This delightful and cozy 800-square-foot home got a gigantic boost from listing photos featuring a T. Rex performing everyday household duties.

Listing agent Casey Lewis had the crazy but effective idea to dress up to earn mammoth attention, as we reported earlier this week. You’ll find the ancient species raiding the fridge, lounging on a bed, and mowing the lawn. The humorous pics snagged serious attention, making the little house with the big dinosaur a web sensation.

Best of all? The dino-mite sales tactic worked! This week’s most popular property earned more than just tons of clicks: The listing is already in “pending sale” status. “That’s insane,” Lewis said, when told of his first-place finish. “I’ve sold some pretty fabulous homes over the past decade. But the media attention from something so funny has been amazing.”
