Meghan Markle and Prince Harry‘s royal wedding has come and gone, but we can’t stop thinking about the one color that popped up everywhere at their nuptials.

From the fashion to the floral arrangements, shades of light green pervaded the entire day’s festivities, so much so that we’re wondering: Is this hue’s popularity going to spread from there—to our wardrobes, walls, and beyond?

After all, over 53 million people (29 million in the U.S. and 24 million in the U.K.) reportedly tuned in to see an American actress and a scion of the House of Windsor say “I do.” And it was hard not to notice all that greenery.

For starters, Markle’s mother, Doria Ragland, nearly stole the show in a divine mint green Oscar de la Renta dress with matching jacket and hat.

Even the extended royal family’s perfectly coordinated wedding portrait was unmistakably verdant in theme.

“You can really see it looking at the royal wedding portraits, with the pale green of the garments, juxtaposed with the beautiful creamy whites and greens of the flowers,” says Anna Maria Mannarino of Mannarino Design, in Holmdel, NJ.

Check out Queen Elizabeth, who is never one to shy away from color. Her royal highness donned (dare we say rocked?!) a bright green coat and hat.

Markle, who once had her own design-savvy lifestyle blog, may have been hinting at her favorite hue, and it’s one that’s both seasonally appropriate and flattering. Check out how Pippa Middleton turned heads in a mint-green floral dress.

Are we entering the era of light green?

Home designers agree that, thanks in part to the royal wedding, light green seems poised for a popularity surge, in our homes and beyond.

“I do think we will see more pale green in home decor, event decor, and fashion,” says Mannarino.

And the best part is, light green comes in a variety of personalities—mint green, chartreuse, sage, citron—so there’s something for every style of home.

Some interior designers, including Denise Maloney of Denise Maloney Interior Design, in San Francisco, have already started embracing light green. An entryway or powder room is a great place to experiment with this lively hue.

Sherwin-Williams even dubbed light green as one of the hot new paint colors for 2018 in its Colormix Color forecast. One particularly pleasing shade, Pearl Gray, makes a calming statement on the walls in the photo below.

Decorating with light green

Think light green will come off as too precious? You can try out this trend in your home without committing to it by bringing in pillows, throw blankets, vases, and artwork with this hue mixed in.

“Upholstered pieces or window treatments are a bigger commitment, but they’ll make a bigger impact,” Mannarino says.

And if you’re really ready to jump in with both feet, painting a room—or even just an accent wall—can be a refreshing change. Some of Mannarino’s favorite paint options are Green Chantilly by Pratt and Lambert, Light Green by Benjamin Moore, and Softened Green by Sherwin-Williams.

Of course, the easiest (albeit temporary) way to fill your home with touches of light green is with fresh flowers or plants. Think like the newly minted Duchess of Sussex and choose delicate blooms, or go for something more dramatic like green hydrangeas or a succulent plant.
