Out of This World! Jackie Gleason’s ‘Spaceship’ House Is Week’s Most Popular Home

realtor.com

Greetings, earthlings: We’re over the moon for our most popular listing this week, a spaceship-like house designed by comedian and TV star Jackie Gleason.

The otherworldly retreat in Cortlandt Manor, NY, has been getting an astronomical number of clicks, and we can see why. The main house, known as “The Mothership,” and its guest cottage, “The Spaceship,” are nestled on 8.5 woodsy acres, and are both completely spherical. Built in the 1950s, the property was owned by Gleason for 12 years, and was eventually picked up by the current owner for just $150,000 in 1976. Today, it’s on the market for an even $12 million.

Coming in second place is a newly built metal home in Florence, MS. The contemporary design, listed at $295,000, features glass roll-up doors and an open concept. We also couldn’t look away from country superstar Jason Aldean’s sparkling equestrian estate in Columbia, TN, for $6.8 million, or the “mother of all fixer-uppers” in Hayward, CA, for $325,000.

So many #housegoals this week! Ready to take a peek? Our most popular homes have landed.

10. 712 Edmondson Pike, Brentwood, TN

Price: $899,900

Why it’s here: This contemporary farmhouse was custom-built in 2014, so it’s definitely move-in ready. The 3,000-square-foot home, featuring three bedrooms and 2.5 baths, sits on more than 3 acres. The floor plan includes a living room (with coffered ceilings!) and an adjacent open kitchen, a formal dining room, family room with fireplace, covered porch, grassy yard with patio, a separate workshop, and a tree-lined lot with a natural spring.

9. 1137 Tiegen Dr, Hayward, CA

Price: $325,000

Why it’s here: Behold the “mother of all fixer-uppers.” Just under 900 square feet, the two-bed, one-bath ranch house from 1948 has seen better days. It lacks power, gas, or utilities, and requires “major work on every aspect of the property.”

While the price might seem high for what you get, the home is located in the San Francisco Bay Area, whose housing market is white-hot. We dare say there could even be a bidding war on this fixer-upper.

8. 2 Treetops Ln, Danvers, MA

Price: $849,900

Why it’s here:  This “meticulously maintained” Tudor is located on a private hill on nearly an acre of land. The four-bed, 3.5-bath home—owned by the same person since its construction in 1984—features a two-story marble foyer, eat-in kitchen, living and dining space, and a master suite with its own balcony. There’s also an oversized family room with skylights, vaulted ceilings, and our personal favorite, a gorgeous stone fireplace.

7. 28W660 Perkins Ct, Naperville, IL

Price: $6,800,000

Why it’s here: Located in one of the wealthiest cities in the Midwest and just 28 miles from Chicago, this spread could satisfy a well-heeled buyer looking for an expansive space with high-end amenities.

The nearly 22,000-square-foot home, which is situated on almost 3 acres, boasts six bedrooms, seven full baths, and three half baths. The 2014 build also features a high-end kitchen, two-story great room, formal dining room, master suite, dual offices, and a sun room, plus an in-law suite over the garage. The lower level sports a theater, poker room, billiard room, bar, and gym.

6. 3672 Talley Moore Rd, Columbia, TN

Price: $7,875,000

Why it’s here: Ever since singer Jason Aldean put his dreamy estate on the market, the Internet has been eager to grab a glimpse. (He and his wife, Brittany, have decided to build a “dream home,” leaving this rustic residence up for grabs.)

Located on 120 acres, the equestrian property offers 8,900 square feet, six beds, and 8.5 baths. The space includes such perks as a detached bowling alley, in-law quarters, a beautiful outdoor entertainment area and pool, and a 10,000-square-foot horse facility, along with a mix of woods and pastures.

5. 212 Bellvale Lakes Rd, Warwick, NY

Price: $694,000

Why it’s here: We hold this truth to be self-evident: This Revolution-era home is totally cool.

Dating back to 1766, the original stone portion has been joined by a New England saltbox, providing the space with historic charm and modern amenities, such as a chef’s kitchen and (of course) air conditioning. The home features six bedrooms, two baths, and 4,220 square feet on 5 rolling acres. Finishes include wide plank floors, wood beams, and rustic wall paneling.

4. 411 Playa Blvd, La Selva Beach, CA

Price: $1.2 million

Why it’s here: We just can’t look away from this livable work of art. The curvy one-of-a-kind Sculpture House by the sea, with its eye-popping architecture, is a repeat visitor to our most popular listings.

Built in 1969 and surrounded by a walled garden, it was originally designed as an art studio, but is now the perfect vacation getaway. Making it even more perfect: The price has dropped by $200,000.

3. 111 Jardine Ave, Jackson, MT

Price: $180,000

Why it’s here: Built in 1952, the mercantile has been at different times a grocery store, living quarters, rental cabin, and shop. Consider the property’s many possibilities for commercial or residential use, and then move in.

It’s located just across from the tourist attraction of Jackson Hot Springs, and the surrounding area boasts not only scenic beauty but outdoor sports such as skiing, snowboarding, hiking, and fishing.

Why it’s here: Paging all you architecture buffs: Have we got a looker for you! This newly built abode features a low-maintenance metal exterior with an open layout and 14-foot-high ceilings. And you’ll have plenty of space to spread out—the 2,000-square-foot contemporary design is nestled on 10.5 woodsy acres.

Other features include a kitchen with large granite island, lots of natural light from the double roll-up glass doors, and a covered lean-to for extra parking.

1. 196 Furnace Dock Rd, Cortlandt Manor, NY

Price: $12 million

Why it’s here: Built by comedian Jackie Gleason in the 1950s, the spaceship-shaped home has been getting out-of-this world attention. It’s no wonder: The completely round party pad (with the main house dubbed “The Mothership” and its guest cottage, “The Spaceship”) looks as if it has landed from another planet.

Inside, the main house boasts a spherical foyer and kitchen, curved bedrooms, a marble spiral staircase, and a 14-seat curved bar.

“Everybody who grew up with ‘The Honeymooners’ and Jackie Gleason naturally would be attracted to such a beautiful home that he custom-designed and built,” says Howard Payson, who represents the listing with Jacqueline Campanelli and Margaret Bailey. “It’s a home that emulates his personality. He was larger than life. It’s no doubt that he lived that way in his home.”
