‘Saturday Night Fever’ House Dances Back Onto Market With a Price Cut

The Brooklyn home made famous by the 1977 smash hit “Saturday Night Fever” is back on the market with a $200,000 price cut. It’s now priced at $2.3 million, and the hope is that a buyer will boogie away with the storied property.

A diehard fan of the John Travolta film talked his then-girlfriend into buying the four-bedroom, four-bath house in 2005. The pair then embarked on a top-to-bottom renovation of the circa-1920 home—making sure to perfectly preserve the home’s dining room, where one of the film’s pivotal opening scenes is set.

In this scene, Travolta’s character, 19-year-old Tony Manero, squabbles with his out-of-work father at the dinner table, who keeps taking swipes at his impressive, carefully groomed coiffure.

For years after the movie’s release, the owners of 221 79th St. would find random fans knocking on the front door, eager to get in and see where the generation-defining movie was shot, the New York Post reports. Not so anymore–the home’s current owner (who’s since split up with the boyfriend in question) says she gets maybe one Travolta fan per year now.

Other than the untouched dining room, everything else inside the house was updated to 2005-era style. The home opens to a small foyer, with a built-in bench, original woodwork, and staircase to the second floor.

The foyer leads into a living room with a massive mirror and twin, built-in glass collector display cases. If those cases once contained movie memorabilia, they don’t now—at least according to the home’s listing photos.

The home’s narrow kitchen was updated with cappuccino-colored cabinets, brown and tan tiled backsplash, and stainless steel appliances. Upstairs, the home’s master bedroom has an open-beamed ceiling, hardwood floors, fireplace, French doors, and a wine cabinet.

The home’s three other bedrooms have each been updated, too. One has exposed brick, a chalkboard paint accent wall, and marionette puppets. Another bedroom is painted light pink, with pink and purple wainscoting. It’s hard to see the hypermasculine Manero, with his “Rocky,” Farrah Fawcett, and Bruce Lee posters on the walls, getting ready to go dancing in any of the home’s bedrooms today.

The home’s exterior looks completely different from the way it did just a few years ago. Originally, it had white and brown clapboard siding, with simple brick steps and a rusty flagpole, according to photos published online. Today, it has a Tudor-style front, bluestone porch, and a wrought-iron fence.

That could explain the home’s price tag, which is on the high side for Brooklyn’s Bay Ridge neighborhood. A slightly larger home just two blocks over is being listed for $1.6 million.

The home’s owner originally listed it late last year for $2.5 million, but apparently pulled the home off the market and cut its price after failing to find a buyer.
