Grammy-winning singer Alicia Keys has paid $20.8 million for “Razor House,” a strikingly modern local landmark in the affluent Southern California town of La Jolla, according to people familiar with the deal.

The property first listed for $30 million in August 2018, The Wall Street Journal reported.

The ultramodern Razor House is named for its location, Razor Point in La Jolla, CA.

The 10,653-square-foot cantilevered home, which has been featured in television commercials including one for Visa Black Card, hugs a jagged bluff overlooking the ocean near an area known as Razor Point. It has four bedrooms, a circular living room, a screening room with acoustically treated walls and ceiling, a black-tiled, vanishing-edge heated pool and a rooftop entertaining level with a stainless-steel spa and an outdoor kitchen, according to the original listing. There is also a 1,301-square-foot, two-bedroom detached guesthouse, said Donald Burns, the prior owner, in an interview last year.

In that interview, Mr. Burns said he bought the property for about $14.1 million in 2011, after the original owner filed for bankruptcy in the late 2000s, and finished construction. The former chief executive of magicJack, a device that plugs into a port on computers to allow users to make local and long-distance phone calls, Mr. Burns said he was pleased that the new owner “appreciated the architecture” as much as he did, but declined to comment on the buyer’s identity.
