Embattled former tennis pro Justin Gimelstob has put his spacious SoCal home up for rent.

The Spanish-style residence in L.A.’s Brentwood neighborhood is renting for $21,500 a month. The home offers plenty of California perks for the sizable chunk of change.

The six-bedroom, 5.5-bath home is a light and spacious 4,807 square feet, but the place feels even larger thanks to its bright, high-ceilinged rooms and open floor plan.

The master suite is a true highlight thanks to a large, private balcony, office space, and a fireplace. Out in the sunny backyard, there’s a covered loggia and fireplace overlooking the pool. The home is being offered furnished or unfurnished and is being represented by Ilona Brown of Compass.

The Morristown, NJ, native has lived in Santa Monica for the past decade, after retiring from professional tennis in 2007. Postretirement, Gimelstob wrote a column for the Sports Illustrated website called “Gimel Takes All,” and served as an analyst for the Tennis Channel.

He has also presented tennis features and interviews for the TV Guide channel, and was a representative on the Association of Tennis Professionals board. Gimelstob turned pro in 1996 after graduating from UCLA, and won the Australian Open and French Open mixed doubles titles in 1998 alongside partner Venus Williams.

However, his postplaying career has been marked by controversies. He’s been reprimanded and even suspended by the Tennis Channel for various instances of sexist and homophobic remarks. He announced he would be leaving the ATP board of directors earlier this year, after his arrest in Los Angeles on charges of attacking venture capitalist Randall Kaplan, a friend of Gimelstob’s ex-wife, Cary Sinnott, at a Halloween party.

Sinnott herself once filed a restraining order against Gimelstob, citing physical and verbal abuse.

“I’m stepping down because my job is to work on the sport’s behalf and the players’ behalf, and in my situation I’ve become too much of a distraction and a liability,” Gimelstob told the New York Times in May. “I take responsibility for that, and I take responsibility for the mistakes I made Halloween night.”
