Missing ‘Fixer Upper’? A Sneak Peek at What Chip and Joanna Gaines Are Up to Next

Missing ‘Fixer Upper’? A Sneak Peek at What Chip and Joanna Gaines Are Up to Next

Fixer Upper

Alas, “Fixer Upper” is over, with the finale airing earlier this week—moving fans to tears over the departure of their weekly fix of Chip and Joanna Gaines, the famous renovation couple on HGTV.

But dry those eyes! Fact is, even though “Fixer Upper” is finished, Chip and Jo will still be with us—just in new ways. In case you want to keep this couple in your lives a little longer (or hey, even indefinitely), here’s a sneak peek at where you’ll be able to find them and what they’re up to next.

‘Behind the Design’

This is Joanna’s solo spinoff show, which will take us behind the gingham curtain and do a deeper dive into those renovations you already saw come together in previous episodes. So yeah, you’ve seen ’em before, but this time you’ll get a good, long look at all the work and creativity she poured into each place.

Ever wonder what happens to the spare bedrooms or the extra bathrooms that aren’t shown on TV? How about those gorgeous staging pieces Joanna uses—do they go back to the warehouse, or do the owners get to keep them? Joanna tells all in “Behind the Design,” premiering on HGTV on April 11 at 8 p.m. ET/PT. (We’ll be watching and recapping, so tune in here for our take.)

Magnolia Table

Chip and Jo’s new restaurant, Magnolia Table, opened to the public on March 26 in Waco, TX. As with any new restaurant, they’re still working out the bugs and the menu, but it appears to already be a huge success.

Joanna blogs that “some of Chip’s favorites are the Farm Eggs Benedict, tater tots, the bacon and eggs appetizer and of course Chip’s Ham Sandwich. I am currently craving the pancakes, chicken salad sandwich, lavender latte and the Gaines Bros Burger with the jalapeño drip jam. My stomach is growling as I type this!”

So come on down! While they don’t accept reservations, with a seating capacity of 210, they can likely fulfill their promise of everyone having “a seat at the table.”

A cookbook

Amazon

Can’t hoof it to the Lone Star State to check out their restaurant? Then do the home-cooked version with Joanna’s cookbook, “Magnolia Table: A Collection of Recipes for Gathering” (Amazon, $16.19), which will be released on April 24.

“It’s a collection of recipes from my kitchen, our restaurant, and some of my favorites from family and friends,” Joanna says. “Cooking is so special to me because time spent around the table with family and friends is such a gift.”

A design book

By the end of April, Joanna hopes to have finished writing her instructive book on design.

“I unpack many different looks and styles in this book, and give a deeper look into the design process and where to start with your space,” she says. No official title or release date has yet been revealed, but we’ll be sure to keep you posted.

Building and renovating more homes

Long before “Fixer Upper” was a spark in a producer’s eye, the Gaineses’ building company, Magnolia Design and Construction, was building, renovating, and flipping homes. The show has made their company more popular than it’s ever been, so among MD&C’s current projects are about 20 new homes in Waco proper and a number of spec homes and contract builds at Retreat at Bon Secour, a waterfront development in Gulf Shores, AL.

New home furnishings for kids

Of course Chip and Jo will continue to refresh their Hearth & Hand with Magnolia line at Target, but they’ve also announced plans to add a children’s line, called Magnolia Kids, to their home store in Waco and online this summer. It will include children’s furniture and accessories, and “there may be some baby stuff, too, because of course that’s all I can think about!” writes Jo.

New additions to the family

Although Chip and Jo have been tight-lipped about the due date for their fifth child, savvy “Fixer Upper” followers know that Chip thought the baby was conceived the night of the Johnny Swim concert at the Silos in Waco, on Oct. 13, 2017. So add nine months to that, and you get a due date around mid-July.

In the meantime, Joanna is taking advantage of her first pregnancy in eight years, admitting that she’s enjoying her excuse to do her two favorite things: “take naps and eat!”

And Chip is doing his part to expand the family as well. He recently surprised everyone with a new kitten and an adorable English Mastiff pup named Brindley.

See Chip run

Chip Gaines on the run, training for a marathon

Magnolia

It seems Chip has always wanted to run a marathon—he wrote about it in his book published last year, “Capital Gaines: Smart Things I Learned Doing Stupid Stuff.” Now he’s almost reached that goal, as he’s been training for the Silo District Marathon on May 6. Chip is actually using this marathon to raise money (and awareness) for the Brave Like Gabe Foundation, with the goal of furthering research on rare cancers. You’re invited to run alongside him, by the way.

So as you can see, Chip, Joanna, and the whole Gaines clan will be around, and keeping plenty busy, even without “Fixer Upper.”

On her blog, Joanna vows, “We’re not saying goodbye”—which leaves the door wide open for, perhaps, a daily talk show in The Silos? Hey, anything is possible.
