Frank Lloyd Wright’s Cedar Lake House Is This Week’s Most Popular Home

Frank Lloyd Wright’s Cedar Lake House Is This Week’s Most Popular Home

realtor.com

The most popular home on realtor.com® this week isn’t a flashy mansion owned by a celebrity. Instead, you were clicking on the classics! The most viewed property is a classic residence in Minnesota, overlooking Cedar Lake and designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.

In a twist, the pedigreed property isn’t exactly fresh on the market. It’s been up for sale for over a year, with a couple of price cuts—and still hasn’t found a buyer willing to make the Wright move. Perhaps its uptick in popularity signals that a buyer is ready for the demands of maintaining such an important piece of American architecture.

The runner-up this week is a midcentury modern masterpiece designed by architect Jim Sherrill. Built as his personal residence in 1956, it comes complete with a sweet, raised bathtub he created to make bathing babies easier.

Other intriguing homes you clicked on this week included Tom Brady‘s massive Massachusetts mansion, a magnificent Missouri manse that once held a speak-easy in the basement, and a midcentury marvel in Waco, TX, that doesn’t require a “Fixer Upper” intervention.

Why it’s here: This three-bedroom home was built by a modernist architect, Jim Sherrill, for his family in 1956, and has remained in the family ever since. 1. 2801 Burnham Blvd, Minneapolis, MN

Price: $2,750,000
Why it’s here: This place has all the Wright stuff! It’s been on the market for over a year, but a buyer has yet to nibble on this Frank Lloyd Wright original. The price has been sliced twice from the initial ask of $3.4 million, and yet this retro residence hasn’t managed to find the right match.

Built in 1951, the three-bedroom home is listed on the National Historic Register and overlooks Cedar Lake. The 2,500-square-foot home sits on nearly a half-acre and has been beautifully maintained by its two previous owners. Given the popularity of Wright’s designs, we’re not shocked to see it pop up as our most popular property. However, we are shocked at how long it’s taken to sell.
