A sprawling French-style chateau dripping elegance with a beautiful marble foyer, crystal chandeliers, and a hair salon is having trouble finding a buyer. That’s not exactly a shocker considering this hillside mansion in Alhambra, CA, is also where legendary music producer Phil Spector murdered model and actress Lana Clarkson in 2003.

The Pyrenees Castle, as it’s called, was originally listed at $5.5 million earlier this year. The nine-bedroom, 10-bathroom oasis with two full kitchens and a fountain out front boasts 360-degree views of the San Gabriel Valley. But despite a flood of interest in the walled and gated estate, which included earning a spot on realtor.com®’s most popular home of the week list in April, the mansion’s price was cut to $4,995,000 on Aug. 30.

That may be because although the grand home is an object of fascination, buyers generally aren’t looking to live at the site of a violent crime. Clarkson, who starred in the 1985 cult classic “Barbarian Queen,” was found dead in the foyer on Feb. 3, 2003. She had met Spector that night at the House of Blues in Los Angeles, where she worked, and went home with him.

Spector bought the home on just over 2.5 acres in 1998 for $1.1 million. He called it “a beautiful and enchanting castle in a hick town where there is no place to go that you shouldn’t go,” according to the Los Angeles Times.

It was built by Sylvester Dupuy in 1925. All of the turrets and spires were meant to imitate European castles.

The home is on the market now because Spector and his wife, Rachelle Spector, who met him during his murder trial, are divorcing. The proceeds of the sale are to be split between them.

The famously eccentric record producer, who worked with The Beatles and the Ramones, was convicted of second-degree murder in 2009. He is serving a 19 years-to-life sentence behind bars.
