Regal history, gorgeous antiques, steady income, elk frolicking in the front yard—the Dunraven Lodge in Estes Park, CO, has it all. And now the 3.88-acre property with magnificent mountain views can be yours for $895,000.

Considered one of the oldest cabins in the state, the Dunraven Lodge was built in 1876 by the Fourth Earl of Dunraven. Officially known as Windham Wyndham-Quin, the earl had a hand in settling the Estes Park Valley, after venturing out on a Western hunting expedition with Buffalo Bill and Texas Jack.

Wyndham-Quinn is believed to have built this cabin in 1876, and the date of 1875 engraved on the potbellied stove appears to back that up.

Fast-forward a century, and the father of current owner Chris Pedersen saved the lodge from the wrecking ball in the 1970s, purchasing it just hours before the bulldozers were set to tear it down. It’s been in the family ever since.

“I’ve been enjoying the beautiful view from the front porch for over 48 years, and I still can’t help but stop and stare every time I see it,” Pedersen says.

The Pedersen family has done a remarkable job of restoring and preserving the place, recently placing it on the National Register of Historical Places.

They also filled the lodge with gorgeous antiques—bedroom sets, armoires, tables, chairs, iron beds, and curio cabinets. With the exception of a few items, Pedersen says he’d just like to hand over the keys to the new owners and let them have everything.

Bedroom furniture is included in the price.

The cabin measures 3,280 square feet and has five bedrooms and six baths, with a few bonus rooms upstairs.

It’s designed to accommodate large families or groups of friends, making it an ideal short-term vacation rental. It’s currently listed on Vacasa for $257 to $681 per night, and comfortably sleeps 11.

And a word to snow seekers: The lodge hasn’t been winterized, so it can be used only in the warmer months. It overlooks a 10-hole golf course and is close to hiking and biking trails, and hunting and fishing opportunities.

Listing agent Jonathan Danton of LIV Sotheby’s International Realty says the views alone could keep you occupied for days.

“It’s incredibly peaceful,” he says. “There are stunning views of Long Peak and the Estes Valley.”

“Truthfully, it’s a little hard on me to think of selling it,” says Pedersen. But he believes it’s time to “let someone else come up and take the next step.” Whatever the step may be, the sky’s the limit.
