Most Expensive New Listing: M Stone Mansion in NJ Still Seeking a Buyer

A huge New Jersey mansion that made headlines in 2016 as the state’s most expensive home has landed back on the market.

Even with its recent price reduction to $36 million, the stone mansion in Alpine is still the state’s priciest property—and it snagged the title of most expensive new listing of the week on realtor.com®.

“The home’s never been lived in,” says listing agent Dennis McCormack. However, staff has been present to keep the place pristine.

Real estate developer Richard Kurtz originally purchased the 60-acre property from Henry Clay Frick II for $58 million in 2006, according to Bloomberg News.

Kurtz then divided the acreage into parcels to sell off, setting aside 6 acres for a personal estate for him and his wife. Stocked with luxury amenities, this magnificent mansion is missing only one thing: its intended residents, who split up. They put the home on the market while it was still under construction.

Now staged and ready for an offer, the massive mansion eagerly awaits its first residents.

Located on the only guard-gated street in Alpine, the 12-bedroom, 19-bathroom estate is stocked with opulent amenities. Entertaining rooms include a ballroom, martini parlor, dual libraries, art galleries, and formal living and dining rooms.

Antique chandeliers grace the walls, and the chef’s kitchen features marble counters and a La Cornue stove.

The lower level sports a basketball court complete with locker rooms, a sports bar, as well as a home theater, spa and fitness center, and wine cellar. 

Outside there’s a 65-foot-long saltwater pool, a pool house, and a tennis court. Plus, there’s a heated driveway and space for 11 cars. 

When we looked at the home in 2016, the price was set at $48 million. Even that ask was a steep reduction from the home’s initial 2010 price tag of $68 million.

As for Alpine, the tony town near NYC is regularly ranked as one of the most expensive ZIP codes in the country.

Only 8 miles from Manhattan, the town has attracted celebrities from Sean Combs to Britney Spears. While a lack of visible house numbers might make it a nightmare for your Uber driver, it does appeal to those seeking a secluded escape. 

And the getaway could be in this essentially brand-new home with a brand-new price.

“It’s in impeccable condition and hopefully someone will agree with us and purchase it,” McCormack says.
