NBA great Rudy Tomjanovich is best known for his affiliation with the Houston Rockets, both as a five-time All-Star forward and as a two-time NBA championship-winning coach.

However, it’s a different sport that’s captured the retired coach’s interest over the past couple of decades. His gorgeous home on the 18th hole of one of L.A.’s most storied golf courses is a testament to his love of the links.

Now Tomjanovich, 69, is entertaining the idea of moving back to Texas, and he’s listed his Cape Cod home in the Cheviot Hills neighborhood for $3,475,000.

Listing agent David Elston of Douglas Elliman says Tomjanovich will miss gazing out of the bedroom window at the very hole where Arnold Palmer famously shot a 12 while playing in the L.A. Open in 1961.

Tomjanovich often plays at the famous Rancho Park Golf Course next to the home. After a short stint coaching the Lakers in 2004, he left coaching but stayed on as a consultant. An avid golfer, he became intrigued when he saw a developer had purchased an old house overlooking the course.

Knowing the story of the fabled 18th hole, Tomjanovich purchased the house while it was being revamped and had the developer finish it to his own taste.

That was about six years ago, but the 3,930-square-foot house still looks new. There are five bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms, and the ceilings are high, of course.

There are four fireplaces, which, while not crucial for L.A. life, add to a cozy ambiance.

The open and airy chef’s kitchen is appointed with stainless-steel appliances, a wine cooler, and an island with seating.

All the bedrooms are generously sized, but the master suite is particularly spacious. It includes a fireplace, built-in shelving, large double bath, ample closet space, and balcony overlooking the 18th hole.

Tomjanovich had an illustrious 11-year career in the NBA, spent entirely with the Rockets. He was named to five All-Star teams and averaged 17-plus points per game.

As a coach for the Rockets throughout most of the ’90s, he led the squad to back-to-back NBA championships, in 1994 and 1995. He also coached the gold medal–winning U.S. basketball team at the 2000 Summer Olympics.
