Randy Johnson’s Massive Arizona Mansion Headed to a No-Reserve Auction

Baseball Hall of Famer Randy Johnson keeps striking out when it comes to selling his beautiful Arizona home. So the former fireballer is taking a final swing with his Paradise Valley, AZ, mansion—by putting it up for a no-reserve auction. 

The enormous estate, with seven bedrooms, 12 baths and 25,416 square feet on 5 acres, has plenty to offer. It initially landed on the market in September 2014 for $25 million. Since then, the price has been chopped by millions of dollars, but no buyer has stepped up to the plate with a winning offer.

With a new year upon us, the Big Unit is ready to part with the place once and for all by the end of January.

Lest you think you can bid a few bucks and wind up with a luxury home, let us brush you back. Qualified bidders must show proof of funds and must deposit $100,000 into a third-party escrow account. Interested bidders can register online. Bidding opens on Jan. 29, and the property will go to the highest bidder on Jan. 31. Concierge Auctions—a luxury real estate auction house—will facilitate the bidding process.

The winning bid will acquire quite a spread.

In addition to the huge main house, the grounds include a two-bedroom guesthouse, an 1,800-square-foot fitness facility, a tennis court, resort-style pool, cabana, and fire pit. Cook up a feast with an outdoor grill and pizza oven. There’s also a gated dog run.

The Mediterranean-style interior includes wrought-iron details, stone walls, and ornate accents, such as detailed ceiling work, dark-wood built-ins, and multiple fireplaces throughout the home. Along with a large kitchen and casual dining area, there are formal dining and living rooms. 

The fun lower level includes a game room and bar, a home theater with tiered seating, professional recording studio, and what’s billed as a custom-designed instrument showroom—which we believe is currently used as Johnson’s trophy room.

The huge master suite features a giant walk-in closet, spa bath with a fireplace, seating area, and private patio with access to a trellised rose garden.

Other amenities include an eight-car motor court, three-car display garage, a three-story elevator, home automation and security systems, and a pet grooming area.

The property is sited on a hillside at the base of Mummy Mountain, well-positioned to take in the valley views. 

The lanky lefty had much better luck on the field. He played in the big leagues for 22 seasons, and wound up with a whopping 4,875 strikeouts—second-best in baseball history. He was named the World Series MVP in 2001 and was a 10-time All Star. Johnson retired in 2010 and was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2015.
