Rent This Charming ‘California Poppy House’ in Venice for .5K a Month

“Poppies!” We dare you to read the word without thinking of the cackling witch from “The Wizard of Oz.” But there is nothing witchy, dark, or scary about the sparkling fresh Venice, CA, home known as the “California Poppy House,” which is currently available for rent for $16,500 per month.

By the way, the California poppy is the official flower of the Golden State, which could be why its architect/owners, Jonathan Ward and Jin Ah Park, added a striking aluminum screen with a poppy silhouette laser-cut into the façade.

There are also pops of poppy red on the walls and ceilings of the house, and another aluminum poppy-paneled screen gracing the interior courtyard.

Those floral features, although unique, are not the only eye-catching aspects of the home. Its wide-open floor plan allows cool ocean breezes to waft through. The two-story great room has skylights, and seems to expand outside, thanks to floor-to-ceiling glass doors and windows. They open out to the fabulous courtyard and a garden with exotic fruit trees.

Also on the main level is an open gourmet kitchen, a dining area, living room, and a music room or third bedroom. The entire house measures 3,500 square feet, with three bedrooms and three uniquely modern baths.

Two of the bedrooms, one behind the arresting poppy screen, are located upstairs, where there is also a large, separate area for casual TV watching and overnight guests.

One more fabulous feature is the whimsical playhouse out back, obviously something the architects had fun designing.

It’s a quick stroll to the beach, and to the trendy Abbot Kinney shopping and dining area. It doesn’t get more beachy, and less witchy, than that. The profusion of poppies, as well as any number of other light and airy features, make this the quintessential California home. Some lucky renter is sure to agree.
