US company sees potential of investing in energy sector in Cambodia

The US ambassador to Cambodia has said that US company General Electric (GE) is interested in investing in Cambodia’s energy sector, according to a Ministry of Commerce post on 22 November.

In a meeting with H.E Pan Sorasak, Minister of Commerce, Ambassador W. Patrick Murphy said that in the short time he has been in Cambodia, he saw small and medium enterprises (SME) as an important driving force in the Cambodian economy.

In order to support the development of (SMEs) in Cambodia, the US Embassy will convene an Agro-industry Forum in February 2020, and will invite the Ministry of Commerce to attend the forum, said Ambassador W. Patrick Murphy.

Ambassador W. Patrick Murphy said that “the US company, GE also intends to join the energy sector to contribute to the shortage of electricity in Cambodia”.

At the meeting, the minister also asked any American company and the American Chamber of Commerce in Cambodia to invest more in both the private and government sectors.
