A one-of-a kind family compound in Inverness, CA, has landed on the market for $6 million.

Calling the property “mind-blowing,” the listing description notes that “You’re completely surrounded by a true West Coast safari, hidden beaches, and hiking for days.”

The coastal Marin County retreat with magnificent views has been owned by the same family since the 1950s. For the last 15 years, the property has been available for short-term vacation rentals. Now, the family has decided that they’re ready to let it go for good.

Spread over 4 acres, the property comes complete with three homes, plus one workshop. Here’s the rundown.

On stilts, the “Hi House” peeks over the treetops. Built in the 1950s, the elevated glass box is a 604-square foot studio with a midcentury modern vibe. Set on a ridge top amongst bishop pines, the spot overlooks Tomales Bay State Park and the Point Reyes National Seashore.

Offering 270-degree views, the studio is accessed by a spiral staircase and features a sleeping area, dining and living area, plus a kitchen and bath. The huge deck expands the space outdoors. “It’s a little floating oasis,” says listing agent Summer Stubblefield.

Next up, the Middle House offers a larger layout, with two beds, 1.5 baths, and picture windows with bay views. The cabin-style home has a large living room with a stone fireplace, dining area, and bedroom.

Finally, the Lower House, located at the entrance of the property, is a “nicely appointed” three-bedroom, two-bathroom, with approximately 1,400 square feet of living space. The space offers views of Tomales Bay State Park from the master bedroom and living room.

Along with a ready-made family getaway, the location is just minutes away from the Pacific Ocean and national seashore beaches. Plus, the land is host to a variety of wildlife, from tule elks to elephant seals, falcons, hawks, and foxes.

And yes, the slice of northern California paradise is a unique find. “It’s literally the last piece of privately owned property that touches the seashore and parks,” Stubblefield says. “It’s super rare.”

She adds, “The location and the fact that it doesn’t exist anywhere else is what is driving the price.”

Although the oldest structure dates back to the 1930s, the three houses have been well maintained. Two of the three homes have updated kitchens with new appliances. Just about an hour from San Francisco, the properties are still available on the vacation rental market if you’d like to try before you buy.

Stubblefield is convinced that this is one of those places you have to experience in order to appreciate. “It’s so magical,” she says. “You don’t feel like you’re going to be back in the city in an hour. You feel light-years away.”
