Moby Sells Midcentury Modern Home for .1M to Support His Favorite Causes

Musician, animal rights activist, and author Moby also digs real estate. He’s flipped a home or two in the past, and he’s done it again.

However, this time, he’s promised the proceeds from the sale of his midcentury modern gem in Pound Ridge, NY, will go to charitable and political causes, Mansion Global reports.

“It’s one of the most beautiful mcm houses I’ve seen, but to be honest, I’m rarely there,” Moby (whose given name is Richard Melville Hall) posted on Instagram in July. “So, I’m going to sell it and take the money to: support progressive political candidates, support my animal rights foundation, produce documentaries, and fund scholarships.”

The musician fell hard for the home, but soon changed his mind. He purchased it in March for $1.24 million, before putting it back on the market just months later for $1.3 million. 

He’s now well on his way to supporting his favorite causes—the home recently sold for $1.1 million. 

Designed by David Henken, a Frank Lloyd Wright apprentice, the showcase home from 1956 features floor-to-ceiling windows, solid mahogany walls, stone floors, and vaulted ceilings. The layout includes two bedrooms, including a master site and spa bath, three total bathrooms, and just over 2,500 square feet in a woodsy setting. 

The great room features a dining area, living area with a fireplace, and access to the deck. There’s also a sleek, eat-in kitchen, a den with a fireplace, as well as a family room with a fireplace with river stones and a natural rock outcropping, and an exercise room, according to the listing description. 

In addition to this sale, Moby invested in a 1920s Los Angeles mansion for $3.4 million about three years ago as a renovation project. He listed the home for $4.5 million, and sold it to his pal Leonardo DiCaprio for $4.9 million. Let’s hope Moby at least sprang for dinner to thank his friend for that tidy profit.
